The Detroit Pistons are again being linked to a major trade with the Milwaukee Bucks, this time centered on acquiring scoring guard Tyler Herro. This speculation surfaces as the Pistons process a difficult playoff exit.
The Pistons need a reliable secondary scorer to ease the burden on superstar Cade Cunningham. Herro has averaged at least 20 points per game for five straight seasons. He creates his own shot, a skill Detroit lacked outside of Cunningham last season. Analyst Grant Hughes noted that Herro's ability to make twos without an assist is "exactly what the Pistons need." His expiring contract also limits long-term risk if the fit isn't perfect.
In the proposed framework, the Detroit Pistons would acquire Tyler Herro. The Milwaukee Bucks would receive forward Ron Holland, shooter Duncan Robinson, and an unprotected 2027 first-round pick. For a Bucks team rebuilding after trading Giannis Antetokounmpo, future draft capital is a priority. The Pistons, meanwhile, would get an immediate offensive boost without a massive long-term commitment.
This isn't the first Bucks-Pistons rumor this offseason. Talks previously involved a potential move for young center Jalen Duren amid his contract discussions. The Herro idea represents a different direction, focusing on backcourt scoring. It shows Detroit's front office is actively exploring multiple avenues to improve the roster.
The trade talk follows a challenging playoff series. The series included close contests, like a 113-117 loss on May 14, but the Cavaliers ultimately prevailed. Adding a proven scorer like Herro could help in tight games.
And so the offseason narrative for Detroit continues to revolve around building a winning support system for Cade Cunningham. Whether Tyler Herro becomes part of that plan is not yet clear. But the persistent trade chatter confirms the Pistons' intention to be aggressive in seeking upgrades. The focus is squarely on adding players who can contribute now and help change the results from their recent playoff run.
