Free agent guard Malik Beasley has openly expressed a desire to return to the Detroit Pistons, posting on social media that he misses the franchise. This comes as the Pistons look to rebound from a 94-125 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on May 18, 2026, part of a recent 2-3 stretch where they've lost their last two games.
Beasley, a nine-year NBA veteran, shared his feelings over the weekend. "I can't lie.. I miss the Pistons man," he wrote in a post that garnered over 100 reshares and nearly 1,800 likes. At 29, his immediate playing future is unclear due to ongoing legal matters off the court.
What did Malik Beasley say about the Pistons?
Beasley's social media message was direct and emotional, highlighting a strong connection from his single season in Detroit. The veteran sharpshooter spent the 2024-2025 campaign with the Pistons after signing a one-year deal following a stint with the Milwaukee Bucks.
He appeared in all 82 regular season games that year, averaging 16.3 points off the bench. More importantly, he shot 41.6% from three-point range, providing essential spacing. His performance helped Detroit secure the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference, ending a long playoff drought.
How did Beasley perform during his Pistons tenure?
Beasley was a consistent contributor throughout the 2024-2025 season. In the playoffs, he elevated his game, averaging a career-high 14.0 points per contest. Reports at the time indicated he was poised to sign a three-year, $42 million contract extension with the team in 2025.
That deal never materialized due to an off-court investigation, which prompted the Pistons to change direction. Since that lone season, Beasley has remained a free agent. For his career, spanning 578 games since 2016, he holds averages of 11.7 points and a 39.1% three-point shooting clip.
What is the current context for the Detroit Pistons?
The Pistons' situation has shifted since Beasley's departure. The team's most recent result was a tough 94-125 defeat against the Cleveland Cavaliers on May 18, 2026. Their form over the last five outings shows two wins and three losses (LLWWL), with consecutive defeats to close that period.
This recent struggle underscores the ongoing challenge of building a consistent contender in the Eastern Conference. You can track the team's progress and upcoming schedule on our schedule page. Finding reliable perimeter scoring, an area where Beasley excelled, remains a need for many NBA teams.
What comes next for Malik Beasley?
Beasley's future is currently in limbo. His proven ability as a three-point specialist makes him a potential asset for teams seeking shooting, but his unresolved legal issues complicate any signing. The guard's public affection for Detroit suggests a reunion would be welcome on his end, but no talks have been reported.
For the Pistons, the focus is on improving from their recent 2-3 run and addressing roster needs. Whether that includes revisiting a player from their recent past like Beasley is unknown. His message, however, is a clear reminder of the impact a single season can have on a player's career and personal connection to a city.
